How to Create and Set a New Home Page in WordPress

Let's say you want to update your home page by making a copy of your current home page, working on it in the background, then updating when ready. This is how to do that.

1. Duplicate your home page using the recommended method for your particular setup.
2. Update this page until you're happy with it, then save.
3. Change the home page using one of two methods below.

Option 1: Set the Home Page from Settings

1. Go to Settings → Reading in the left sidebar of your site dashboard.
2. Next to the label 'Your homepage displays,' and under the radio button that says 'A static page', you'll see the current home page in the dropdown:
3. Change the dropdown to your new home page.
4. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

If you frequently work in the customizer, you can also use the method below. These are just two different ways to access the same settings.

Option 2: Set the Home Page from the Customizer

1. Go to Appearance → Customize.
2. Select Homepage Settings.
3. Under 'A static page' select the dropdown and choose your new page as the front page for your site.
4. Click Save Changes.
